Preamble: As an innovative solutions provider of excellence in engineering design and development and a turnkey engineering solution provider, MecTec approached this project by discussing all aspects of the challenge with the client. The format and methodology for this process has been developed by MecTec to bring best engineering practice and consistency to all our projects.

Solution: It became obvious during the initial process of determining the scope of works that the heat generated from the friction of the clutch shoes played a detrimental effect on the wear of the clutch. MecTec provided a new design of the complete clutch assembly. Materials of different grades and compositions were tested and finally a perfect match was determined. A clutch shoe was designed so as the heat generated actually improved the overall performance of the clutch. With the agreement of Pallas Karting LTD a full test was carried out on their premises using one of their new karts. A new design was drafted and put into production for an integrated greasing system. This new development has increased the overall clutch’s life span and drastically reduced maintenance costs.
Epilogue:
The new design of centrifugal clutch has reduced running costs and down time for Pallas Karting. This has also benefited the racing karts overall performance and reliability having more karts availably for the track.
